      He was quite sassy towards Trump and got a few laughts out of the crowd.

      As if Macron’s record as a President was not precisely a regress of democracy on all accounts. Obviously, this is not as bad as Trump but he has leveled the field for an autocratic presidency of the coming far-right president.
      Ecologists are treated like terrorists, the Parliament’s role has been reduced by using the smallest gap holes in the Constitution… he’s cumulating the Presidency with the role of Prime Minister. 
      I appreciate that he decided to fight Trump and his advocacy for rearmament but a defender of the democracy he is not.

      Honestly refreshing to hear a European leader speak confidently about cooperation and long term goals, even if Davos is heavy on symbolism.

      French people will vote him out on next elections anyway. And he’ll be unable to pass any real reform because French voters won’t allow it.

      When you read a lengthy attack against Macron, you can be sure you’re dealing with a far-right Trump supporter, or a pro-Russian Mélenchon supporter incapable of admitting they are the source of our problems.

      I understand many in France do not care for him.

      From a liberal American’s perspective, he appears to be a courageous leader in foreign policy.

      As much as I’m sure Europeans would prefer to focus on their own development and financially future-proofing their benefits systems…

      Sadly I think Europe needs strong foreign policy leaders to help rally international sentiment and likely boost military spending across the board.

      Trump’s strategy will eventually turn into Defeat in Detail – likely leaning on Hungary while finding ways to fund every right wing party across all of Europe in an attempt to shatter EU unity – which would greatly benefit his disastrous goals of explicit imperialism.

      It is clear he does not respect any European leader or power. By the nature of Europe, unprecedented international cooperation will be required to force a change.

      From a believer in enlightenment principles and liberalism (the two great polestars of “western” culture), I wish you all the best.

      I like this guy, I know he isn’t popular in France but when it comes to EU topics, he says what he needs to be said and he does it confidently. Which should be normal for all our leaders in EU but alas that’s not the case for several countries these days

      I am also very often frustrated with the EU and I agree with the desperate need for reform but its benefits still far outweigh its downsides. The project of European Unity is the greatest project this continent has ever worked on. We must not let it fail, especially at the hands of foreign powers.

      Why does he wear those glasses, nothing wrong with that but seems very unusual for politicians during a speech etc.

      Europe has no doubt about donalds mental illness, and is forced to deal with his malignant narcissism instead of a politician, because the yanks can’t be trusted to keep their house in order.

      This will have repercussions for generations.

      Remember the out first time President Macron spoke English in public? At home in France there was a huge outcry. It now seems that everyone has accepted it and it gives France much more power. Because the truth is that few European leaders are fluent in French and even fewer of the general public.

      Macron gave a fantastic speech and Europeans should rally behind him. And because he spoke in English many more in Europe can actually understand it.
