      I don’t think he realizes how little the public trusts politicians, and that’s for good reason.
      He’s a smart, intelligent guy who could absolutely destroy someone in a debate. He did some great work for the 9/11 survivors with no seeming motivation.

      That’s fine if he doesn’t want it, but we don’t have any leaders with his skill. I know that’s sad, but that’s where we are. Most of the democrats look shell shocked, and the ones that aren’t, kiss the boots of billionaires.

      He’s right. He’s a smart guy, he’s well spoken, likeable, and seems to have the right measure of what’s right and what’s wrong. 

      He’s not a politician.

      Desperation my ass.

      We have been calling for Jon to run since the Al Gore days.

      We see his high intelligence and his empathy and compassion. We see how completely disconnected from the political machine of Washington he is.

      He has no corporate backers. No lobbyists putting cash in his pocket.

      That’s good enough for me. Get your ass in there and help us.

      The greatest paradox about government is that the people who are most fit to lead don’t want to, and those that crave it more than anything, are the people who should be kept furthest from public office.

      Unpopular opinion but I’m fine with Jon ‘but both sides’ Stewart sitting this one out. 

      Even when the tea party was showing where the future of the Republicans was going he did his whole ‘rally to restore sanity’ ‘we just need to find a middle ground’ song and dance. 

      Colbert during his Colbert Report days was the sharper of the two by far.

      Yeah dude, we are desperate. The Dems are going to run Kamala back or Newsome and pretend they have a chance. I hate their commitment to the bare minimum.

      Jon Stewart isn’t interested in any political project. Being anti-corruption alone doesn’t start a movement. I know he said he wants Audit The Pentagon to find any wasteful spending, and he probably wants to raise taxes on the rich. Cool, what does he want to do with the money the government raised? He might say things like healthcare, but how does he want healthcare spending to work? Is it Obamacare, Medicare for all, or nationalizing the entire healthcare industry? These are things that activists and politicians work on.

      Let’s see here.. Jon has proven himself to be intelligent, empathetic, reasonable, and works well with others to build a coalition to reach a goal(passing a bill in congress).

      Gee… I don’t know why we’d want someone like that in charge.

      What are the alternatives?

      A GOP that’s completely lost their minds.

      Or a Democrat party that is liberal to the point connivence. As in they don’t have gays, women, or minorities. But good luck getting them to address the underlying issues of inequality. You know, the kind of things MLK was trying to highlight before he got shot, such as the wealthy being too wealthy.

      I don’t accept that this is the best we can do for leadership.

      Actually if America right now got a humble but hard working guy in the office now, but a politician not someone outside of politics, that’s it’s best chance at trying to regroup and show a little more class and dignity.

      But this is a pipe dream at this point. It’s only going to get worse.

      just run, win, and work to giving power back to congress and neuter the executive branch so trump can’t happen again. that’s all we need. oh and prosecute every single trump sycophant in this admin who broke the law.

      Yeah, it’s crazy how many Dems are desperate for someone to save them. Too many looking to midterms and for a cult of personality to rise on the left.

      We have to use our rights while we still have them to engage in large scale, ongoing, and disruptive protest. We should have a no kings level turnout every day.

      Yes, we are desperate. 

      I remember my brother asked me about John Stewart running for president like 10 years ago and I said no way. That doesn’t make sense. He’s a celebrity. 

      But now we have a racist Mafia celebrity who lies all the time. Stewart’s not looking so bad. Colbert either. Hell I’d vote for Mark Ruffalo.

      I’m all for him running but something tells me that holding office at that level will absolutely eat away at him faster than most recent presidents considering his ethical views.

      I think he would be a great man for the job but on the other side of that is do we want him to take that fall for us to steer this country towards a better direction with whatever stress that office will place on his health?

      It presents a possible ethical question here but of course it’s technically a democracy(sort of?).

      I am 1000% desperate for a candidate who gives a fly fuck about the average American and not just the wealthy and corporations.

      Ideally, I’d prefer a whole party who has these values, but this feels like a very big ask right now.

      How about Carl and Donut 2028?

      Napoleon once said, when asked to explain the lack of great statesmen in the world, that „to get power, you need to display absolute pettiness. To exercise power, you need to show true greatness.“ Such pettiness and such greatness are rarely found in one person.

      This is from Jeff Bridges‘ end speech in ‚The Contender‘ (2000). This pre-9/11 political thriller fucks so goddamn hard and nobody seems to know about it.

      Whenever the talking heads have to go into the ring, they cower, he would rather talk and get paid than lead. Pretty par for the course with most comedian talk show hosts.
