Amazing to just hear her talking on RTE about Coldplay being partially responsible for her behaviour and losses.
He never meant to cause her trouble
While I do have smpathy for her, there is no way her money should be refunded
Who is she expecting to pay her back?
If you wire money once the wire is sent the money is gone.
Hi it’s me, Chris Martin, money pls
Will the real Chris Martin please stand up, I repeat will the Chris Martin please stand up, looks like we are gonna have a problem here.
She willingly transferred the funds out of her account, where does she think the refund will come from ? If the government passed laws stating all victims of fraud were to be refunded, then the bank fees/interest for every other customer would go up.
I know most banks work on a % basis for fraud refunds. So if she got nothing back then it’s clear she was 100% blame for the transfers.
Hey I’m Rhianna find me on revolut oh na nah

Yeah, I am currently talking to Gal Gadot, we are helping kids in Africa together.
„In the UK, the APP Fraud Reimbursement Scheme means banks must reimburse their customers if they are the victim of such a scam.“ I had no idea the UK protects customers like that. It looks like it’s because the bank can see that the payee name is different than what their customer thinks it is. She might win her case, because she lives in the North and the involved bank was Ulster Bank.
A fool and their money are easily parted. Tough titties.
Got to admire her a tiny bit for not being absolutely morto about being taken by a scammer, but pushing the bank for a refund just adds another layer to the delusion of it all. I feel bad for her learning such an expensive lesson but it doesn’t seem like she’s really learned it yet.
“€20,000 believing it was going towards a charitable foundation.
Now she is in a battle with a bank to return her life savings”
Sorry, but no. She was willing to give her life savings away to charity (which good on her if she thought it was a good cause, but that wasn’t the case). There is no way the bank ‘should’ bail her out cause she fucked up. Idiot.
I’d love to help her out by transferring €20k to her, but unfortunately I’m skint after paying €50k towards myself and Angelina Jolie’s forthcoming wedding ceremony. (Angie messaged me kindly agreeing to pay the bulk of the costs herself – she’s all class even if her spelling and grammar are atrocious).
> In the UK, the APP Fraud Reimbursement Scheme means banks must reimburse their customers if they are the victim of such a scam.
I’ve heard people in the UK complain about how many hoops they have to jump through and the numerous checks they have because of laws like this.
I’m no fan of Irish banks for obvious reasons, but why should they be at a loss because you’re a few cards short of a full deck
How stupid can people be honestly? These people get an equal vote to you.
Lots of „oh well tough shit“ comments here break me heart.
God help her if the wallet inspector comes calling.
When you try your best but you don’t succeed
Stupid woman
We’re going to have to do something anyways to entice the banks to do more to avoid these scams. As we enter an age where AI will scam more and more people, coupled with an increasing elderly population, this is just going to happen more.
Interesting the article notes;
> In the UK, the APP Fraud Reimbursement Scheme means banks must reimburse their customers if they are the victim of such a scam.
>There are no such laws in Ireland.
>Stacey has been labelled a victim of APP fraud by Financial Ombudsman offices in both the UK and Ireland.
Pretty sure banking fees are cheaper in the UK too.
Jesus , some people are really thick , Chris Martin 😂😂😂
Haven’t heard of this story, but now need to know more
Harsh words, but she deserved it. If you’re stupid enough to send 20k to someone you don’t know, you need to learn the consequences of your actions. It’s no different to the African prince scam.
I heard her interviewed on the radio and as she was talking I kept expecting her to say „and then I knew it was a scam“ but she never did.
Lol, how does a scam like this work? Why would Chris Martin need 20k, and why from a rando?
Jail the mule that allowed their bank account be used to receive the money.
I’d forgotten about this. I’m now absolutely AGOG all over again
„Hi, I’m Chris Martin. Can you send me €200? I’m struggling to liquidate my wealth to pay for a chippy“
More should be done up front by the banks. They’re all over you if you go into an overdraft situation with automated alerts and charges applied systematically but sending 20K to a US account (which I am assuming is not normal behaviour for this woman) goes through without any issue.
Forget about how silly this particular scam was, if it was your parents or grandparents who got caught out in a more realistic scam, would you be so blasé about the banks responsibilities then? A quick phone call from the bank could have clarified it.
Off-topic and just out of curiosity, say somebody defrauds me like using AI to catfish and gets my manager’s face and tells me to send 20,000 to some place. Can the bank not reverse the payment? Is there no recourse?
(Again, not related to the story above, just curious about how banks work, I agree that the woman is on the hook and should accept her losses, I’ve also finished my company mandated phishing training, thank you)
Look at the stars, look how they shine for you. And everything they do. Yeah, deposit all €20k yellow.
I know it’s a meme, but I saw something that was like ‚if an slightly above attractive woman reaches out to a guy, he’s instantly convinced it’s a scam, even if it’s genuine, but an average woman in a council flat will really believe Brad Pitt needs her money‘
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise half of them are stupider than that…
