  1. > “Do you remember who won in the past ten years? It’s not the win that’s important. It’s the nomination,” Seyfried said. “It does thrust you forward. That’s a fact. Now, do I need one in a week or two or whenever? No, of course, I don’t. Would it be great? Of course it would, for every reason. But it isn’t necessary. Longevity in an actor’s career is designed. Longevity is about deliberate choices to make art among the big commercial things that are fun and pay.”

I can barely remember what I ate yesterday. In all seriousness I remember a few winners that were truly great, like heath ledger, Brendan Fraser, Emma stone, Adrian Brody (pianist), Di Caprio, Jamie Foxx, Streep etc… And some infamous ones like Will Smith and Shakespeare in Love.

  3. Ok now back in reality, for most people who win one, it is very important to them. It’s the top honor in film making for most who work in this industry. It represents acknowledgment from your peers on your work.

I know it’s easy to be cynical about these awards, but this is just silly.

And yes, I can definitely list off lots of winners from the past 10 years. I watched the ceremonies, and the movies they were for.

  4. I remember who won… ~ Today this could be, the Greatest Day of our lives. ~

  5. i would’ve thought it’s like anything else on a CV – sure in 10 years it probably won’t matter, but it certainly affects the next few years and that in turns affects the years after and so on. plus the people in industry actually do remember these things, even if your random Joe Schmo doesn’t

nobody cares about my high school credentials, but my college did, and my first job cared my grades in college, and my second job cared that i had a good first job. which i hope isnt depressing to anyone who messsed up at any point in that process…

I know this isn’t awards related, but I recall Bill Nighy saying that after ‚Love Actually‘ (2003), his pay quintupled and he no longer had to audition for roles.

One would assume this would be the case for any Oscar winner, and perhaps It was true at one point, but she’s actually very correct: It’s not the golden ticket you’d think it would be.

  7. Sounds like someone is laying the mental groundwork to justify not getting an Oscar.

Off the top of my head:

    -Mikey Madison, Anora
    -Emma Stone, Poor Things
    -Emma Stone, La La Land
-Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once
    -Jessica Chastaine, Tammy Faye
    -Renee Zellweger, Judy
    -Frances McDormand, Nomadland
-Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
    -Olivia Coleman, The Favourite

Think I might be missing someone, but I put up good numbers

I don’t watch the Oscar’s but I could randomly list some who won like Will Smith, Madison from the last  Scream movie , Emma Stone, blah. blah

  10. Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone (x2), Mikey Madison, Michelle Yeoh are the recent ones I remember.

  11. It matters in getting work so the next movie can claim an Oscar winner is involved. Which gives the movie credibility.

  12. It’s the Dean Smith argument: I won a national title half an hour ago and I’m not any better or worse of a coach.

I’d say it depends on who you are and what you aspire to. Amanda Seyfried for the rest of her life (may it be long and prosperous) will be Karen Smith, Cosette, Sam Jackson, Elizabeth Holmes she’s bang on by saying “longevity” because she’s gotten the big roles.

No disrespect to Youn Yuh-jung or Ariana DeBose, but they aren’t.

The academy award I would say matters a bit more.

Awards are getting more and more stupid, especially after the woman at the Grammy’s admitted they were completely rigged. I believe they’re all rigged to one extent or another.

I tend to remember actors and actresses I really like, or if there was some sort of an upset, otherwise…not so much
