  1. When Alfred Nobel, the man who invented dynamite and who amassed a huge fortune from that invention, died in 1896, his will set up five prizes that would be awarded in his name. Four of them – the prizes in physics, chemistry, medicine and literature – would be awarded by expert committees in Nobel’s native Sweden.

The final prize, the [Nobel Peace Prize](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/trump-no-longer-loved-america-polls-prove-it-4176682?ico=in-line_link), was different. For reasons Nobel never specified and which we can only guess at more than a century later, this was to be awarded by a committee appointed by the parliament of Norway, not Sweden.

Perhaps Nobel thought that Sweden, which had famously invaded most of its neighbours through its long history, wasn’t a good fit for this trophy. But for most of the 125-year history of the prize, it has proved a boon to Norway’s soft power – a reason for leaders across the world to pay attention to an otherwise largely obscure Scandinavian nation.

And then along came [Donald Trump](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/should-donald-trump-win-nobel-peace-prize-the-i-paper-experts-verdict-3967593?ico=in-line_link), an American president truly unlike any who had gone before him, not least for his willingness to say the quiet part out loud. It is surely the case that many if not most world leaders have quietly harboured ambitions to be awarded a Nobel – politicians are nothing if not ambitious, and the club of Nobel laureates is surely the most elite and exclusive one going.

But most politicians also have the sense to pretend that winning the prize never occurred to them, and certainly didn’t affect how they acted. Politicians are elected to represent the interests of their voters, and their countries, after all – by tradition, they at least pretend that they’re not only in it for themselves.

With a single letter to Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre, though, Trump has thrown out all pretence of caring about anything other than himself – or that he understands the very basics of how the Nobel is awarded, what it’s awarded for, or even [how international relations are supposed to work](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/putin-not-greatest-threat-europe-its-trump-4176762?ico=in-line_link).

That’s a lot of work for a document that is shorter than many of Trump’s Truth Social posts, but it easily clears that bar. “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize…” it opens, “I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace.”

He knows he is going to die. He wants to bring all of us along with him.

He’s absolutely obsessed because Obama got one, and he didn’t. It’s genuinely pathetic.

There is a lot to say about this event in particular, and no doubt we are going through a historical period. But one detail pointed out in this article is pretty interesting – that this document itself will go down in history, and it actually seems pretty reasonable.

What Trump does right now, is portraying exactly the set of values the adversaries we find in anything from ancient mythology to modern Hollywood movies. People who want to use strength in order to force people to submit to them, and then people who stand up against them, who you naturally always root for.

Xerxes in 300, Sauron in Lord of the Rings, or just Hitler in World War 2. And especially if they are defeated, or at least stopped, their memory tends to go down in history, along with everybody who supported them. Their memory also tend to be associated with certain events or symbols, capturing their particular nature, making it easier to pass on their memory to the next generation. This document might be exactly that kind of symbol.

The question is how fast the rats will leave the ship now when it becomes increasingly obvious people stopped backing down, because the internet wont forget, and the judgement of history will be incredible hard against those who stand on Trumps side. Regardless if he gets what he wants or not. Therefore this document is good, because it shows what kind of person these people stood behind.

We’ve all joked that he’s crazy, but this is the first time I’ve seriously wondered if he genuinely is losing the plot.

Previously you could wonder if he was just pushing people’s buttons, bluffing, and playing up to his „unpredictable“ moniker. Now I’m not sure if he’s really all there.

    Strange times.

  6. Dear Americans,

We beg you, please PLEASE don’t elect a toddler in any future elections. You vote, but the rest of the world has to deal with his tantrums.

    Kind regards
    The rest of the world

Trump didnt get accepted by his art academy and wants war now.
All of that because Obama got one.

The „over the Nobel Peace Prize“ part is redundant. Even if Norway were to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, it wouldn’t end there. It wouldn’t end with handing him Greenland either. He believes he’s entitled to anything he wants, and everyone else has no choice but to indulge him. He’s truly like that kid from the Twilight Zone episode It’s a Good Life.

  9. There’s no way he could possible mean what he sent them it’s just too downright bizarre.
    Is he serious?
