      The notion that we can simply abolish ICE and run the country with absolutely no immigration enforcement mechanism is silly.

      But, by all means, tear down ICE as it operates under Trump and re-build it operating in a decent and humane way, with humans, not thugs.

      Gallego has more of a sense of urgency about this than the sitting Senators of Minnesota last I checked. That’s damning and shameful.

      Abolishing/Replacing ICE needs to be a litmus test for any 2028 Democratic Presidential Candidate.

      Please please please can we all get on board with this? 

      All the quibbling over whether „abolish ice“ is good politics is driving me nuts. 

      Whatever we replace them with the entire existing organization is cancerous and needs to be destroyed.

      The entire Department of “Homeland Security”—paging George Orwell—needs to be canned. And not replaced. Just canned.

      It serves no purpose other than to do precisely what Trump is using it for, and that is not something a civil society needs in order to function.

      ICE has always been a racist reactionary power grab by the federal government. We quickly forget the history of how this institution was even formed. By the Bush administration in 2003 in a direct response to 9/11 and as a way to combat domestic terrorism. They were always designed to be used as a Gestapo. Every issue of immigration had government entities and government agents working on those issues. ICE has always been unnecessary government spending.

      ICE today is what *Republicans* do, it’s what they allow to happen. You cannot tear down ICE, you also cannot de-fund it while *Republicans* control Congress, the White House and even the SCOTUS. The root of the ICE problem is that *Republicans* are in control. Fire them all, then there will be some hope. Take the least difficult political action you can imagine doing, the goddamn minimum: vote, dammit. They will make voting difficult, they will make it inconvenient, they will make it scary for some. So if you find it difficult, inconvenient and scary then it means that they are winning and that you really, really have to kick yourself in the ass and go vote, or else it will only become worse and worse.

      ICE was meant for border control at the beginning. It’s now being turned into Trump’s Turd Reich Gestapo. It’s a tool of domestic terrorism, it’s unfit for purpose and stuffed with Proud Boy wannabes. Ya’ll need to shitcan that department ASAP.

      Torn down, no, they will disperse onto the wind and be hard to hold to account, they need to be rounded up and charged as murderers, human traffickers, or accessories to such.

      How can they still exist?

      Are they like a new form of cancer without a cure?

      Or are they a group of thugs bankrolled by crazy people?

      It’s not just that ICE needs to go.

      Literally everyone employed by ICE should be in prison for the rest of their lives. Just getting rid of ICE and replacing it with something else full of the same rotten people doesn’t solve anything.

      Not just torn down. They need to be held accountable. Every single case needs to be looked at. Families need to be made whole. Every photo and video needs to be tied to a face and name of a thug Nazi, and they need their day in court. It’s imperative that people catch as many identifying features of these guys. Make sure to note their height, any scars you see, their tattoos, blemishes, birthmarks, eye color, hair color. All of it needs to be collected and submitted as evidence so they may pay for their crimes.

      I actually disagree. We need ICE as a country. The issue is Trumps ICE. Needs a total reform. If we got rid of it, Dems would just replace it with something else that would serve the same purpose, albeit with more tact

      The people who lead and staff it will still be here. It might feel good to think you can slay the great evil dragon but those people will join the next organization that the authoritarians set up. Yeah, tear it down – but make it harder to make a new one too, please

      This should a litmus test for any democrat
      Any democrat that supports ICE’s continued existence ahould be primaried as they are either incredibly tone deaf or complicit.
