They already have experience with tools for generating plausible sounding waffle that may be wrong in subtle or obvious ways, those are called junior civil servants.

Joking aside doesn’t sound like a bad idea if it’s cheaper than paying third parties to provide training.

The Civil Service College (main site, Sunningdale) used to do this

      They closed it in 2012

    3. >Ministers will bring in a new “school of government” for senior civil servants to train them in AI and other skills

Id argue its not senor Civil Servants who need this training. Its the AO-SEO levels that need it as they will be the ones doing a lot of the leg work that could be improved massively by AI and ML and never get the full set of tools required to speed things up and improve processes.

But no, we don’t train the Indians, only the Chiefs

    4. I like Darren Jones in general but everyone needs to get over this collective hard-on for AI.

Especially – *especially* – if it means more cash to shitty soulless US tech companies which plagiarise everything while refusing to engage with anything even remotely resembling frank dialogue about ethics.
