States run elections, so I’m fairly sure we will have elections. The bigger issue is going to be if they are fair, if they are accurately counted, and whether he would send the feds into blue states to obstruct us.

Also worry about people believing the midterms will hold him accountable. Let’s be clear about that. It will stop his worst impulses and terrible legislation. The house could flip and impeach, but they’re won’t be a 2/3 majority in the Senate for conviction. The Ds might flip the Senate, but i don’t see them getting to 2/3. Why is that important? Don’t forget just a few days after Jan. 6th only one R voted for impeachment on only one of the articles after attacking the Capitol and attempting to stop them from their constitutional duty to certify your votes. Neither he, nor Bondi, nor any other senate confirmed appointee is getting removed. Fired by Trump – maybe. Not impeached.

If the 2026 elections are cancelled none of the current candidates win by default, their seats just become empty, which would just create a Constitutional crisis that even the Supreme Court will take years to determine.
Same thing with the Presidency in 2028… Trump doesn’t get to keep his seat on January 20th if no votes took place.
So what would be accomplished in the US by cancelling elections? It worked for other countries because their terms aren’t like in the US, not because it’s a Democratic rule that someone wins by default.
I get that the rule of law doesn’t apply anymore, but the fight over it would just paralyze the country for years. Nothing would be legitimate anymore, no nominations by those in the fighting for a contested seats would be valid, no legislative actions would be binding…

The gameplan could be pretty simple too. Red states cancel theirs, the sitting Republican congress refuses to certify results from blue states, SCOTUS rubber stamps it, and now we have a broken government which is pretty much the entire goal of P25.
Anybody saying „oh no well it’s illegal! the law says we need an election! Abraham Lincoln let an election happen during the Civil War!“ seems to be ignoring the fact these people have no regard laws, let alone a single thing in common with Honest Abe.

Their terms expire – there is NO provision ANYWHERE in ANY law to extend them. Not within „Emergency Powers“.

My guess is that he will do something similar to Jan. 6. Election results will get announced, Dems will take majority in the House and possibly in the Senate. He will then seize the voting machines in states that will allow it. (Texas, etc). And surprise surprise the voting machines that he seized will show he actually WON. Wow! How lucky for him! Let’s assume the democrats handily win a majority in the house in the 2026 election. Ask yourself — will Trump and the fascists allow a Democratic Congress to be seated in January 2027? Or would they be content to just leave the house vacant.
