      I’m not from the states, but what happens when the National guard is deployed by the state, and the army is deployed by the federal government?
      How far away from a civil war is the states ?

      Anyone who thinks they’re sending the guard in to protect civilians from ICE is going to be in for a rude awakening.

      They are probably going to be a buffer zone wall between protesters and ICE. Taking over for the police? Maybe? But they have a federal court order that ICE cant touch protesters or tear gas them and stuff. I hope the guard is there to make sure they don’t. I really really hope.

      Someone correct me, is he calling in the guard before Trump can do it, so as to maintain control of them ?

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the purpose of this to also quash civil unrest and to protect buildings and infrastructure from being damaged by riots etc?
      He’s not deploying the guard to help people, they will also against you, just not nearly as bad as ICE.

      Unless I’ve missed something?

      This is an opportunity! The National Guard and local police should put themselves between the protesters and ICE.

      The National Guard will likely stand alongside ICE to quell protests and enforce state and federal laws. It is important to remember that the National Guard is made up of the same people that many liberals and those on the left previously opposed. Many ICE officers are also part of the reserves ( National Guard). The key difference is that the governor sits at the top of the command structure, but the governor can only set broad objectives for the Guard.

      The president can also take control of the National Guard under the US Constitution, specifically Article I and Article II.

      I understand why Tim Walz did this. He likely wanted to preempt Trump from making that call himself. Minnesota still needs to function, and after the BLM protests and riots, the general public has little tolerance for large scale unrest and riots. People may dislike ICE, but they do not want their buildings burned, businesses looted and life disrupted.
