I guess that also helps me save money by not having any cash…
I wouldn’t be surprised if this picks up speed.
Japan should look at what EU is proposing and build their own processor. Fuck VISA and Mastercard for their monopoly-like position, abandon them.
How much does Paypay or IC card companies charge?
This is why Brazil built Pix, their own payment platform created by their central banking authority. Japan should do the same
I usually only use credit card for online shopping, local stores and restaurants I’ve been using cash only.
The fees paid to credit card companies is pretty insane from the store perspective. You essentially need to raise prices, unfairly punishing those who pay in cash.
I actively avoid Trial and Cosmos unless I 100% need an item they carry because they are cash only stores.
Good. Particularly when I’m at a small neighborhood store, I want the store to take in the full amount I pay, and not have a percentage skimmed off by some giant faraway corporation.
And I’d rather have my cash counted by a local person earning a wage than by a soulless payment machine screeching オシハライホウホウ and オカネヲトウニュウシテクダサイ while I figure out which buttons it wants me to press. Society is better served by having a gainfully-employed part-time teenager earning pocket money, or an older person looking to stay in the community while supplementing their pension, doing this job.
Here in America, the extra cost often just gets passed to the consumer. Some stores have minimums for credit card purchases. Others advertise charging less for cash than for card. I’ve noticed that especially at convenience stores and gas stations.
Its no surprise Japanese aren’t fond of it, we aren’t either. But in America, the producer names the tune and the consumer has to dance. I don’t think cash only is the solution thought. You can’t run from technology. You have to do it better
