Kampagne zur Wiederaufforstung von Cornwall nach dem Gemetzel durch Sturm Goretti

Cornwall already has one of the lowest woodland cover in the UK. Now a campaign has been launched to reforest the county.

The storm brought northerly winds over 120mph, causing widespread devastation across Cornwall. Thousands of trees were uprooted causing devastation to not only woodlands and wildlife but also local communities.

Many homes were left without power for days, some infrastructure was damaged while many National Trust properties and some of Cornwall’s historic gardens have been decimated. The Government’s response has now been called into question. 

Almost 100 of the trees at St Michael’s Mount, near Penzance, were felled by winds recorded by its weather station to have been 111mph (179km/h) at one point.

Head gardener Darren Little said: „We’ve almost stopped counting now because there’s trees under trees – the domino effect – so we don’t know.“

Trewithen estate near Grampound Road said a quarter of the large mature trees, some of which were 250 years old, had come down in the storm on Thursday (January 8).

Gary Long, head gardener of Trewithen, said the damage caused by Storm Goretti was such, that „historically, it’s a reset now“.

A group of Cornish artists are now working with local [charity Plant One CIC ](https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/reforst-cornwall-after-storm-goretti)to help them fundraise to reforest Cornwall and replant what has been lost.

Why not put more wind turbines there? It’ll make electricity and dampen the wind.
