  1. > Rian Johnson took to X on Friday night to shut down a claim from former Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy that he was “spooked by the online negativity” and never returned to the “Star Wars” franchise after helming “The Last Jedi.”

    > In response to a post from IGN aggregating the news, he wrote, “Lol zero spooked, sorry.”

Kind of amused he’s out there responding to IGN articles of all things.

Wonder what game he was looking up

He showed no real love for the franchise he dismantled the internal logic of the world and left the trilogy fundamentally broken.

The more unbelievable part is that Disney allowed it to happen. Their stewardship of Star Wars has been astonishingly careless, with little sense of long-term vision or respect for what made the universe work in the first place.

People shouldn’t be attacking him personally, but he made a bad film and it’s ok to say that.

I haven’t seen any Star Wars movies outside of the original three. Once I saw the Lucas cuts in the 90s, I tuned out.

    ☠️💀

  5. To never give the the adults who fell in love with and made Star Wars relevant as children the opportunity to see Luke in action once more was a travesty. Everything else aside this would have made every fan rejoice and he decided he didn’t want that and somehow Kathleen ok’d that which is crazy. After all these years we got a projection hologram fight followed by exhaustion death. I’m not being dramatic when I say that movie killed my Star Wars fandom. Not just because of that, many other aspects of the movie as well, but that one played the biggest role.

  6. Old aquiantance of mine worked with him on the Knives movies after the SW work(lot of good things to say, he’s a competent film maker). Mentioned that he was still asking about what people thought of the SW movies years after the fact, and not happy about the overarching critique.

He also apparently had „a guy“ at the FBI that he would call regularly over all the death threats he still recieved over the movies, which is always a terrible overreaction from the fans…

    Online anecdotes away! 😀

I love his work in Knives Out, but he was not the right pick for Star Wars. Imagine bringing some guy in to kill the lead of the legendary original trilogy and dip under the guise of “subversion”. Just total disrespect for the fans who loved the OT. But ultimately, that was the message of the ST: “we don’t care about you or want you. you have been replaced.”

Maybe not spooked by fans but spooked that he wrote a bad story and movie

  9. They were insultingly bad and the fact that he still feels entitled to good responses to them is insane.

  10. We’re not safe in America anymore. No one likes growing up here. Nothing but hate.

I’m still saltier about the rumors that his wife, the great podcaster Karina Longworth, was working on some sort of project relating to telling Marcia Lucas’s life story and then the Star Wars gig happened and it was kiboshed.

I can live with not getting what I want out of Star Wars, but Marcia still struggles to get the credit/limelight she properly deserves and if Karina could do for her what she did for Polly Platt I think it would go a long way.

I stood and clapped at the part where Luke Skywalker died floating on a rock because he was too sad to get on a ship. Just a chefs kiss.

Fuck Rian Johnson, you’re the worst Star Wars director, didn’t like his movie, still don’t

  14. Lucas Film should dump that sequel trilogy. Just wipe it from the books. Do something else.

And yet his was the best of the 3. I will absolutely die on that hill.
