After the breakdown of integration talks between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Transitional Government (STG), many predicted that there would be a broader military operation against the SDF by the STG army, beyond northern Aleppo; and here we are, though this one is limited in scope to the areas west of the Euphrates and not a full-scale war.

The most interesting tidbit in this article is that the US doesn’t necessarily oppose the operation, presumably because it thinks some sort of pressure is needed to return the SDF to the negotiating table.
