    1. The Americans expected us to just sit back and allow Trump and the U.S. government to bully us. They 100% thought they could tariff us, force our factories to the U.S., and we would sit back and buy from them at a premium.

They never expected we would shrug off their tyranny and make deals with other countries; they never expected that we would turn around and say “fuck American made cars, we can buy comparable Chinese cars for cheaper.”

When you keep telling us we have nothing you want you can’t be shocked when we go make deals with people who want what we have.

For context, this is the Democratic senator from Hawaii – he is attempting to make a critical point against the administration, not someone in power conceding their policy has been a failure, unfortunately.

Trying to estimate how many EVs the USA shipped to Canada . . . maybe 30K in 2025, definitely declining precipitously from the ~80K in 2024.

The EV deal we made with China looks to be for 49K vehicles, ramping up to 70K.

There seems to be about 1.4 million EVs sold in the USA and 1.5 million made in 2025.

      Tough math.

America brought this down on itself, and in true American fashion, will blame everyone…but itself. We had a great three-country arrangement that worked for everyone especially the US. Yet, that wasn’t good enough apparently, so they torched it, backstabbed their partners in the process and decided to salt the earth.
Your President and your Ambassador have spent the last three days telling us that the US didn’t need Canada or Mexico. So we took you at your word.
Maybe you can sell your cars to Venezuela.

What did they expect to have us like sitting ducks. They made their stance crystal clear….we have to take care of ourselves. Just the way the wind blows….

What do you expect us to do when we are being bullied by our neighbors to the south? You can’t expect us to take sit down while you bully us.

      > “We just got absolutely rolled in this Canada – China deal,” Schatz, a Democrat from Hawaii, wrote on X. “A stark foreign policy failure with domestic economic consequences.”

      > The senator blamed the outcome on the Trump administration’s hostile approach toward Canada.

      > “The most basic principle in politics and geopolitics is loyalty to friends. And we weren’t just disloyal – we were hostile. So here we are,” Schatz added.

Senator Schatz actually understands why Carney did this, which is more than can be said for a lot of his colleagues in Congress

And Canada China make stratigic sense if China has invested interest in it. The more allies Canada has will make the US think harder about taking it over.

    9. If the United States wants to speedrun towards their own Century of Humiliation, that’s their decision.

That doesn’t mean Canada should be expected to be tethered to the same fate.

    10. Republicans watch trump avoid consequences for his actions and forget that actions actually do have consequences.
