bad job prospects – in part due to the low population density

statistically the state with highest alcohol consumption

would be the first things that come to mind as both things are often associated with the lower class, but thats not necessarily what the picture wants to say

High unemployment rate —> Agentur für Arbeit is exhausted and the young people are Doomers with not much hope left

Mostly people left are old people (Peaky Blinders guy) because most young people move away

  3. The meme means: Hey, do not attack us for voting for the far right and supporting the AfD. We cannot help it. We have poor structural conditions. That is why it is completely okay that half of us are Nazis.

  4. I am from Mecklenburg, some areas were build when we were still part of the DDR/GDR. Back then those areas were highend, today most people avoid these areas as there are more poor / unemployed people. And even so many years after the reunification, we still have a rather bad economy in the northeast. However, its not as bad as Bremen or Berlin.

Three types of people live in that state: old folks, alcoholics and welfare beneficiaries. That’s the cliche.

Others have explained most of it, so I’ll just add that those buildings in the background called „Plattenbau“, cheap, mass built, worker housing, are common for cities in the parts of the former GDR.

I can add that the location from the picture is in the city of schwerin, in a district called „Großer Dreesch“. The city has a very big problem with the segregation of rich and poor people. The wealthy people can afford living in the inner city, while the people with poor payment or without a job live in the outskirts. If you grow up in the Dreesch, you will most likely end up in the underclass, you cant help it

MVler here, it’s a „snapshot“ of the county.

Lots of grey weather, old people, Eastblocc-architecture and few economic opportunities causing the social services to be exhausted.

But more importantly: why did someone run the middle wojack through AI?

  9. I actually live in the exact city the image is from (schwerin) and can tell you about it a bit more, and was born in that district.

When germany had its economic miracle (1948-1973), it was splitted in two parts, east and west and MV is east german.

When germany united, the economic miracle was already over, resulting in an high unemployment rate, a general dissatisfaction, having no jobs and being relatively poor.

The image is from the district „Großer Dreesch“, which was a project of the GDR, which is seen as „the hood of this city“, it is full of drug junkies, alcoholics, criminals and poor people, with their only source of income being bürgergeld, which is given by the Agentur für Arbeit.

The cooperative that owns most of the plattenbau there didn’t cared about the buildings and not seeing any importance to renovate them, until lately but not really much of progress is done, making everything look like a depressing fever dream.

This all resulted in a really cheap cost of living.

And now there was some sort of pattern I noticed:
    – Qualified people moved away (most of the time hamburg)
    – Unqualified people moved there (also most of the time hamburg)

And this seems to make the problems more worse and worse over time.

Schwerin (capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) especially has one if not the most desperate social need people. Lots of people with no money and no future. Despite being the capital it lacks a University and anything like industry. Tourism is the only moneymaker but even though it is not World Heritage there are not that many tourists. And there are not that many tourist places like cafes, restaurants etc. to employ people.

I grew up there and like many young people I left as soon as possible.
