Sadly no production on Canadian land…. But better to have cheap car and no car industry than no car industry and expensive cars.

This is a game changer. Of course, we must expect Trump will now pressure the American car companies to close shop in Ontario.

  3. I hope this means we get a bunch of new models, rather than a bunch of Chinese made teslas. I’m assuming this will probably not allow new brands to enter the market as it’s too limited of a capacity to warrant a whole supply chain expansion, but if established companies are allowed to bring in their Chinese EVs, I’m all for it!! (Off the top of my head, that means smart and mini can have a comeback, and probably many more)

  4. This is great news. And believe it or not, this does actually incentivize us to develop domesticatally as well.

EVs need charging stations and we now have even more reasons to get our grid in order here.

Enough fighting over pipeline and competing with Venezuela.

    This is a big W.

Sounds like we will be getting BYDs and Nios on the road soon! I think this will be the end of American automakers in Canada.

  6. China is expected to lower levies on Canadian canola oil from 85% to 15% by 1 March, while Ottawa has agreed to tax Chinese electric vehicles at the most-favoured-nation rate, 6.1%

6.1 holy moly AND just like that the car market is changed forever, going into a Japanese > Korea > China transition for new players on the block

This should send a clear message to legacy manufacturers who’re threatening to pull out from Canada after absorbing billions in tax payer subsidies. *cough * stellantis

I guess the auto manufacturing industry in Ontario is going to be dead. No cars are going to be made here anymore.
