I paid just shy of £8 for a Guinness recently in the South West.

Now I can see them doing this just to make an anti political pint.

We have to remember that some political opinions are shared online on Reddit but others are shared offline in pubs.

Pubs being shut down in those circles would have the impact of Reddit being shutdown 😕

How politically voiceless and alarmed would you be if that were to happened? How angry would you be and what protesty would you suddenly feel?

That’s why we get massive support for parties like reform because those political discussions are happening there not here.

That is some crazy price inflation..

In 2000 average price of a pint was £2, that is £3.83 in todays money.

And in London in the expensive areas it was about £4, I remember complaining about it at the time, that is about £7ish today, which is what it costs in central London now really.

£10 a pint is some sort of way above inflation bullshit profiteering.

I paid £8 in a west London pub just before Christmas and have certainly heard of £10, unfortunately

Beamish and Murphy’s marketing department stirs in their decade long sleep. But no. Not today.

It’s weird how the brewery can make a pint can that sells for just over a quid in costcutter but the stuff they brew for the pubs needs to cost £10. I read once pub Guinness was laced with saffron and delivered in solid gold barrels, maybe they could look into that to reduce costs.

I’ve already paid that in some craft pubs (unwittingly).

Unfortunately we’re now in a pricing death spiral where people drink less and go out less due to the price. Pubs see the falling revenue and do all they can to make it up – increase prices. But without more money in people’s pockets, this just exacerbates the original problem.

Pubs used to be a working man’s thing. They have become decidedly middle class.

There are loads of brewers who brew a great stout, equal in quality also in flavour and body to Guinness. They invest in promotion, offer competitive pricing to pubs and then Guinness drinkers turn their nose up at it and won’t even consider an alternative. This behaviour is basically giving Diageo all the encouragement they need to charge whatever they want.
Lots of pubs are tied and have to pay a huge subsidy to their pub company on top of the price hike too. On top of the cut the supply chain/wholesaler take.
Most pubs are paying more per pint than a can is at Tesco. Because there is no alternative because Guinness drinkers won’t entertain an alternative.
It is a very odd, self inflicted monopoly Guinness drinkers have talked themselves in to.
