She’s going to be running for Mayor of Mississauga again in October. Unfortunately she’s probably going to get re-elected in her old seat after ditching the city.

Same day as François Legault resigns (though the latter was leader of a government, and she was leader of an opposition party). What a day!

  3. Sources say she intended to resign after last March’s election but forgot to hit send on the email.  She only realized her error after starting to wonder why nobody had heard a word from the party in nearly a year.

(Not substantive or respectful, feel free to delete.)

  4. Good riddance, she was collecting 200k/yr while doing nothing, but there’s going to be a whole lot of people looking at this headline with confusion, presuming she had already resigned. I doubt this has anything to do with values though, rather it’s her believing that she’s entitled to the Ontario former party leader retirement package, namely a mayoralty.

I guess Fraser will take on the interim title for a third time.

    Good fucking riddance.

After she announced her resignation last year, she said she was going to stay on as leader, but the party never set a date to elect a new leader (and still hasn’t). In the meantime she has essentially gone to ground, making almost no public appearances or statements on anything that’s been happening. So she was literally just doing nothing but pick up a cheque indefinitely.

There was an article in the Toronto Star last week where several Ontario Liberal Party officials were quoted saying that they were in no hurry to elect a new leader – probably some time in 2027 – and that they felt they didn’t need to do much to change as the shine will have inevitably come off Ford by then. I suspect there was a lot of internal pushback to that, hence Crombie finally leaving.
