**A pair of Romanian burglars began “ransacking” homes within hours of arriving in Britain.**

Ion Zaharia, 44, and Samir Barbulesteanu, 23, came to the country by car from France in October and were burgling houses within 24 hours.

They broke into multiple properties and stole items that included £40 from a money box in a child’s bedroom.

Liverpool Crown Court was told that the pair, along with an unidentified accomplice, first struck in Warrington, Cheshire, on Oct 29.

They forced their way into a family home while the owners were on holiday. When the owners returned, they found that the back door had been smashed and the property had been burgled.

The home was left in an “untidy” state, with wardrobe doors found off their hinges, iPads stood on and cracked, and children’s bedrooms left in disarray.

Sentimental items were stolen, including dog tags given to the homeowner by his late brother and around £1,540, including the £40 from the child’s bedroom.

Further break-ins were attempted across the town, including at another nearby property where a resident found a screwdriver dumped near her rear gate.

CCTV showed three men damaging the gate and security light after a neighbour heard a disturbance.

At a third property nearby, a homeowner returned from work to find a smashed bedroom window and broken glass across her daughter’s bed – but nothing was stolen.

Meanwhile, at another property, an elderly woman found that her conservatory doors had been smashed during the night while she was asleep in the property.

Although nothing was taken, the woman, who lives alone, said the incident has left her feeling “unsafe”.
      Multiple property break-ins

On Nov 10, a solicitor checking on an unoccupied property in Scarborough discovered it had been broken into.

A safe containing jewellery and documents had been stolen from inside a wardrobe.

Zaharia and Barbulesteanu, both of Rookery Road in Birmingham, were arrested at Birmingham Airport in connection with the incidents.

Zaharia was found in possession of jewellery, while Barbulesteanu had cash and jewellery. Both men were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

Oliver Saddington, defending Zaharia, said Zaharia had found it hard to earn money in Romania and supports his wife and two children financially.

Olivia Beesley, defending Barbulesteanu, also noted difficulties with making a living in Romania and said he has a young family to support.
      Deportation on the cards

Judge Gary Woodhall said the pair had “immediately” begun burgling people’s homes after entering the UK.

He said: “You ransacked that family’s home, including the children’s bedrooms. Anybody having their home broken into in this way, the place where they should feel safe, has all that safety undermined.

“The children witnessed what you had done to their home. What you did caused distress and fear for the whole family. They feel unsettled and unsafe in their own home.”

The court heard that Zaharia has previous convictions across France, Austria and Romania, including aggravated theft, attempted burglary, handling stolen goods and fraud.

      Barbulesteanu had no previous convictions.

The judge said they faced deportation, while their accomplice remains at large.

Zaharia was jailed for four years and three months, while Barbulesteanu was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars.

Your honour my clients were merely keen to start integrating with their local community.

    3. Wouldn’t we be able to get more of these people in if we were still part of EU?

    4. The beauty of diversity and integration within UK society, keep it coming; we are truly benefitting as a society with amazing individuals like these joining us

doesnt matter where theyre from. this is part of life, any government that says they can stop this is lying. to patrol our shores we would need to mobalise the country. this just happens. we could blame the french maybe?

Unless they have residency I really don’t understand why information like this isn’t flagged at the border and used to deny people entry.

Thank God people like this arrive in the UK everyday, without them we would of choked on our own homogeneity by now, im feeling enriched.

these comments are absolute cesspits, this is what you get when the government don’t look after desperate and vulnerable people.

They entered country legally via car in channel tunnel/ferry crossing and legally via Border Control.

Headline frames like crossed in a small boat.

This country is literally a theme park to them.

They will never have any sort of permanence here like a secure job etc, so will always be happy to do this.

They’ll never get any meaningful punishment or feel the effects of declining trust in our society.

To them, it’s just a wonderland to take take take and take from by any means necessary.

      Simple.

    11. Yes, there are bad people and good people in all countries. Plenty of UK born people happy to steal from others here too, and plenty of immigrants living good lives and contributing to society.

83-87% of serious crime in this country is committed by white people, pretty much on par with their demographic numbers, yet they make up a negligible percentage of news coverage. Please take this shit with a grain of salt, as it’s obvious the people who own vast swaths of our media WANT you to hate foreigners.

To be clear, I’m reacting to the atrocious comments in this thread, not the article itself. I have no sympathy for thieves, but I’m sick of the endless, cherry picked articles highlighting immigrants especially to drive hate.

      wtf?

So they came in legally and were robbing? Shitty and misleading post title.

I wonder if we changed the system so you lose a hand when you are caught stealing. Persistent offenders will run out of limbs to mutilate eventually but the fear of losing a hand might deter some people.

Nah that’s crazy, let’s continue to support these poor people and give them free stuff.

    15. The article isn’t clear on what basis they were in the country. This is being spun as an immigration issue but they may have been here on a tourist visa.

    16. Lol why are ppl talking about integration?

Just because they look like Asians and have Muslim sounding names doesn’t mean they want to come here an and settle 😂

These guys are EU citizens, and are criminals on a cross-continent tour. UK or not… they have a mission and it’s to burglar and do as much damage.

Please click the links and actually read the article and don’t be baited by such misleading headlines.

We are an insufferable lot I swear 😂 😂 😂

Now it’s time to spend loads of taxpayer money giving them a fair trial and ensuring they are not unfairly deported

And what say the local community leaders of this? Obviously it doesn’t matter what the politicians or police think as they’ll do absolutely nothing.

    19. Roma gypsys are the biggest threat to Great Britain. This isn’t spoken about enough
