  1. I never really thought Ashton had a chance to win, but this seems to cement that. Onward continues Avi Lewis’s march to victory, and then the abyss.

I don’t think people realize how much AI is being used by politicians though, I’d say a large majority of statements they put out are written by AI, though in fairness it’s staffers mostly doing this.

  2. I generally support the use of AI but doing an AMA and using AI to answer it is just a really bad look

    „Ask Me Anything“…I don’t care since I won’t directly respond to it.

Seriously, what’s the point of an AMA then if you’re not the one answering???

That sucks. He was the only one I actually liked. I’ll never vote for any politician who uses AI at all.

Annoying. I’m typically a liberal/ndp voter. The liberals need credible opposition though. Especially now since anything environmental or climate related is gone out the window. God knows that PP isn’t going to be the one and anyone he chooses for his bench is going to be like him but lacking charisma. The NDP needs to be a serious party again (they haven’t been one since Broadbent really. Layton was decent but could easily come off as a salesman).

  6. If this doesn’t say „not ready for primetime,“ I don’t know what does.

I have no issue with the use of AI in general, but many in the NDP do for artistic IP and job protection reasons. What bothers me is the lack of judgement in implementation. If you’re taking the time to do an AMA, you should be doing the AMA.

It reflects poorly that he’s using AI to replace human interaction. AI can have a role in campaigns, but using it to have conversations with voters is terrible optics and a rookie move to not see that political risk.

  7. The more annoying thing here is that he wasn’t genuinely engaged in the ama but clearly had staff do much of the work.

A big loss of credibility for him. There is hypocrisy about his stances towards AI.

well his leadership bid is done.

avi lewis will win, but will the NDP go all in with their urban socialist agenda?

I think Lewis has a chance to win freelands riding, the area south of bloor speaks his language. The NDP needs to make a big move to be taken seriously and stealing this riding with lewis is low risk high reward. Low risk because if he loses he can go somewhere else, and the fact in byelections voters are more likely to be flexible in how they vote so they can be heard – see toronto’s st pauls where the voters set the stage for trudeau being forced out.

Damn, I renewed my membership for the first time in years to vote for Rob but this is a fucking bad look. I’m not sure I can support him anymore.

Awww man, I liked this dude, too. He had that „you’re old hippie uncle who’s committed to worker’s rights“ vibe going on. Just fucking pissed all over it.

  12. Ask me anything!

Ok, ask me to ask my staff to draft an answer for my review about anything, because I planned to be too busy to follow through on this voluntary commitment I made!

There is no credible relevant representation of the Left in Canada
