If Trump really wanted to box in China declaring economic war on the rest of the planet was the dumbest way to do so.

  2. Mind_Killer on

It’s honestly mind-boggling how so many Americans and *Congressmen* continue to support Trump’s “America First” policy that continuously elevates Russia and China over America

How bad do you have to fuck up as a US president to get Canada to rethink the relationship between the countries?

    Trump bad apparently.

The threat of annexation may have also affected Canada’s decision to look for allies.

The best part are the separatists in Alberta that think they can go it alone in this political climate.

Edit: “Go it alone” and fold into the US because they are important people and respected and not like other Canadians.

I would be down to see China did regime change here Sadly. You’re Lucky Canada

It’s not even America first bruh.. the guy has crowned himself president of Venezuela… VENEZUELA FIRST!

  8. Bring in Chinese electric cars, we make none in Canada so it’s a non issue and consumers will save money.

I hope we agree to let those Chinese EV’s in duty free and have the Chinese commit to buying some lumber and sink a few jobs into Ontario in return.

Remember, before maga, Canada would have never thought of doing a deal with China unless it got the rubber stamp of Washington? Well, I’d say those days of deference to the Yanks is truly over.

    Fucking daft.

China is funding terrorism in Europe and Africa. They’re also helping Russia occupy Ukraine. In response to the US becoming tougher to work with, you’re going to help fund the enemies of the people you’re angry at the US for allegedly abandoning? Make that make sense?

This will be fine as long as we decide not to comment about human rights or anything like that

  13. If the USA is going the route of self immolation, Canada will have to diversify its trade options to soften the blow of the US economy intentionally crashing into the ground.

This is the first PM visit to China in almost a decade.

What I like about China is they lead with their wallets and keep their mouths shut. Just the opposite of Trump.

Works for me – I hate the idea of trading dependence on one superpower with dependence on another, but at the moment I think China is the lesser evil.

You look at BYD and how their sales are through the roof and it seems obvious that is a great train to get on. Let them set up in Canada to service the market in the Americas.

  17. What’s he going to trade Chinese police stations for canola imports?

We should not forget or forgive easily just because our attention is on another bad actor at the moment.

  18. Fewer and fewer countries want to do business with the United States due to Trump’s attitude and incompetence in business. His own multiple bankruptcies prove this. He borrows and spends but rarely pays his debts. Other countries, trade partners, will minimize business exchanges with the US. We will be alone. Trump has become a pariah.

  19. Hoping Canada removes the tariffs on BYD. We already have a BYD factory that makes electric busses. If they agree to open a car factory here it’d be worth it. With Project Arrow, we showed we have domestic capabilities for the entire electric car supply chain.

  20. Good. Canada should be expanding their trade partners to no be so reliant on 1. We currently see the fallout if that 1 sours and how quickly it can happen for no real reason.

Carney could pull off a bit of a masterpiece here, I’m not crazy optimistic, but I think some real good economic ties could come of this.

I find it a little concerning that the world seems to be so interested in saying „fuck you“ to Trump and the US, that they’re pretending the people they’re going to make deals with instead weren’t/aren’t among the biggest players bribing Trump.

China was literally one of two countries Trump explicitly asked to help him win elections. He was the first president to have Chinese bank accounts. He and his family members got all kinds of favors from China for their businesses. He compliments Xi for doing shit like having the rules changed so he can be president for life if he so chooses. China was one of the countries noted to spend his first term renting out entire floors in his hotels even when they had accommodations in that city already. They were just openly funneling money to him.

Now countries that vowed to diversify their supply chains during covid are seemingly reverting back to „nah, let’s just put 100% of our eggs in the China basket instead of just most of them.“

Russia wants NATO gone, Trump antagonized NATO nations, and NATO nations respond by telling him to stop or they’ll end NATO, so he doesn’t have to try to get Congress to help him do it himself.

China wants Europe dependent on them because they watched Europe chastise America and call it war mongering for saying Russia was about to invade Ukraine, because they had allowed themselves to become dependent on Russian oil and needed it to be a lie. Now Europe is threatening to go all-in on China like that’s somehow necessary to pivoting away from the US. By all means, pivot away from the US, but why act like the only way to do it is by pivoting to a situation that’s merely a different kind of shitty?

Funny how everyone being dependent on Chinese supply chains is suddenly not a problem anymore. Everyone thought covid was the end of that delusional level of complacency. All it took was giving them an opportunity to revert while going „and it’s all Trump/America’s fault.“

Seriously, did everyone forget how clear it was to us during covid that the entire globe being dependent on China was a horrifically bad idea? Everyone’s politicians were vowing that as soon as shit was back to normal, they were going to set to work diversifying supply chains and subsidizing different sources of manufacturing to ensure they didn’t have all their eggs in one basket anymore.

Look, I don’t have the answers for how to best deal with all of these situations, but it just really seems like a lot of people are rewarding the people doing all this shit. If you’re pissed at Trump, you should probably take note of everyone who bribes him and act as if they wanted the shit that pissed you off to happen. Stop with this bullshit of „they were just trying to play the game by his rules, don’t blame them for trying to bribe politicians.“ You can and should demonize anyone bribing politicians to ignore their constituency.

I hate the tag of the article because Trump is not even putting America first. He simply doing shitty things to benefit his rich donors.
