What’s the difference between BT$ and T$?
Big developed economy is almost as big as developing economies (for the most part), more news at 11.
Well, Italy’s GDP was 2.7 times higher than the combined GDP of all those countries just 25 years ago. Give it a little bit more time.

Italy is the cradle of European civilization, would be strange if they didn’t have a huge economy
Which is also around Russia GDP with 200mill people.
edit:sorry, 150mil I went by my bad memory and didnt check..
And yet there are still enough confused people who want to admit Ukraine into the EU….
crazy how much difference a few decades can make in economics huh
Do any of them have better living standards than Italy?
Its housing, general architecture, and roads look more similar to those in Lebanon than in Romania though
Churchill is correct, Italy is the soft belly of Europe
Poland has the biggest growth of any EU country iirc. Really cool to see.
A lot of people overlook, just how historically and culturally important countries like Poland and the Czech Republik are.
Won’t stay that way for long, Italy is one of the fastest aging western countries, and lots of young Italians are leaving for other parts of Europe.
Yes, Italian banks used to launch 3/4 of their credit lines in Italy, and 1/4 in those pesky new areas, during the transition. The profit they made was also divided 1/4 to 3/4, with 3/4 coming from the poor folks. This is the way Italy keeps its GDP high. They invest locally, money they loot in other places.
How is Italy’s GDP so high ? What are they producing ?
Take away tourism and they would be worse off than poland
In addition to the things everyone is saying, there’s another very important thing.
Italy is a net contributor to the EU, meaning it gives much more money to the EU than it receives.
All the other countries you see on the map are net recipients, meaning they receive much more money from the EU than they give.
Italy’s glory days are behind, I wouldn’t be surprised if in a decade Poland would surpass them
But still Italians are suffering from massive unemployment and low salary. Is there any developed country where people go to eork abroad so much other than Italy and Spain? There is a reason people perceive those countries less developed. Indeed most of their GDP comes from GDP which does not improve the quality of lives of normal people. As a Taiwanese I can say No wonder many Asians feel those countries are run down
Poland’s economy has grown a lot since the end of communism
Cyprus also joined in 2004.
