We need to send a strong message that makes it very clear to the Trump administration, Greenland is not up for grabs.

Deploying NATO troops would be a great way to do that. But not just the UK, it needs to a signal that we stand together on this and we are not afraid.

UK recently signed a defence deal with Palantir, maybe boycott US systems, if there is one thing that can get in Trumps ear or other republicans its corporate lobbyists who are addicted to money.

I wish Canada would do this, even if it was only a token gesture of 100-200 troops. The timid „encourage restraint“ statement that our government put out following the strikes on Venezuela was shameful. We need to stop being scared and stop tiptoeing around the States. We need to look them in the eye and tell them that we will stand up for what we believe in.

These are our allies and it’s our ethical and democratic obligation to stand up for them, as a country. This is especially considering that Canada would by far be the most affected (other than Greenland and Denmark) if these annexation threats came to fruition. We’d be fully surrounded by America on all sides, and Baffin Island would be a stone’s throw away from the US military.

Appeasement doesn’t work, anyone who payed attention in history class should know that.

Do it as soon as possible. Trump will chicken out as usual if someone really has the guts to put up a fight

A strong NATO presence on Greenland would be a great idea! Trump won’t attack Greenland if we do that, as the Americans have a lot of airbases and thousands of troops stationed in Europe. An attack on NATO troops would mean the extinction of those troops and airbases. Also, trillions of dollars of American investment in Europe would simply vanish, which would have a significant negative effect on the American economy.

Trump simply cannot attack NATO without causing serious harm to America.

  6. NATO effectively died the moment we began debating the need to deploy troops for protection against another NATO member.

Usually, support for people with dementia and bowel control problems involves a care home and family support. This is most atypical.

This feels like it might have an adverse side effect if Putin ramps up his plans to invade NATO territory.

  9. They’re discussing deploying nato troops to protect Greenland from Russian and Chinese aggression, not from the US…that gives Trump more fuel for his own imaginary pretext.

I can’t believe this shit. I hate this timeline.

If you voted for this asshat, I hate you too.

It’s always the UK that has to stand up first, call out BS first, do what’s right etc etc

Why can’t the gutless other European countries set an example first for a change?

  12. Isn’t NATO 62% US funded and I assume has large share of the bato forces? how does that work out?

  13. The UK is presently holding 3/4 of a trillion dollars of US Treasury Securities. Want to send a clear message that Trump and MAGA will understand? Dump your positions of US Treasury Securities. Same for the rest of Europe. The US will stop their bullshit immediately.

  14. Seems a very sensible move. Of course, it needs the agreement of Greenland and Denmark.

It can also be presented to the US and Trump as a move to deter Russia and/or China from moving in on Greenland which currently is what Trump claims is the reason why the US wants Greenland.

  15. Boots on the ground

    Boats in the water

And a reminder that UK/EU could call in US debt if they make a move on Greenland

The troops and boats are great but threatening to cripple the us economy will get the orange fella to listen.

Yes! And Finland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, France, spain, Italy…

  17. Trump has that „I look like shit and will croak within a year“ kinda look about him. Fingies crossed

    Excellent stuff.

We’re going to need to relearn that it’s hard power that matters.

All the soft power, international law, resolutions, diplomacy isn’t going to matter in the era we are entering.

America is gunna be like a guy after a heavy night on the lash after Donald kicks the bucket haha.

“Yeah… sorry, I had to much koolaid last night”

  20. I mean, where do you put them though? Isn’t it just a number of villages/small towns and inhabitable land? Lol all for it though

Every European country needs to station 500 troops there plus a range of equipment including anti aircraft SAMs systems, anti ship missiles, artillery and light tanks. if 20 countries did this he’d face 10K highly trained and equipped troops. At least until the fucker croaks it.

  22. While yes we shouldnt allow the USA to take Greenland the rhetoric that we could even stop the USA if we wanted to is a joke.

Honestly this is laughable at best, the US accounts for easily 70 to 75 percent of the entirety of NATOs military power, when you start accounting for active military personnel, military equipment technology etc. Even if the rest of NATO combined tried to stand up to the USA it would not even be a competition, Europe has let itself go we are barely a true military threat to the US outside of nuclear weapons.

We cannot even field a CSG to counter a single American CSG, they have 11 with 3 more under construction. The Americans can deliver more than 5000 marines to anywhere in the world within 8 days, we cannot even match it. And on top of that we host active US military bases within our own countries which in any confrontation would allow them to strike us from the inside out almost immediately.
