    1. Every once a while (and it’s becoming more frequent) I read something about the UK, that I’m convinced has to be a right wing hoax and just made up or published only is some obscure 3rd world media.

      But nope, it’s totally true.

    2. UAE worried about their nationals getting open access to 1984, Brave New World and Animal Farm

Coming from UAE, this mean a lot. Wish gov and people take this seriously

It’s a pretty stark wake-up call when the UAE, a country that historically shares our security interests, decides our academic environment is too risky for their own citizens. We keep hearing about prevent strategies, but this move suggests other nations think we’re failing at it..

    5. The UAE pulling funding over radicalisation concerns is notable, but it raises an obvious question: what about Qatar? They’ve invested billions into UK (and American) universities with far less scrutiny. When a foreign state becomes a major funder of academic departments, it’s worth asking what that investment buys, not in explicit quid pro quo terms, but in shaping research priorities, creating institutional dependencies, and building relationships with future decision-makers.

There’s a reason Qatar invests so heavily in Western universities – it’s soft power. Students and academics who benefit from that funding naturally develop ties and sympathies to their Muslim Brotherhood cause. We could all see it in the protests.

The question is whether the UK will continue its slumber or do something about it.

Having known and worked with people who’ve spent decades in the UAE, one thing is for sure, that they do not represent Muslims or their interests. Just lookup the anti Muslim disinformation campaign they funded by paying a Swiss company (Alp services).

In a similar sense how (some) western interests like covering any issue under the guise of terrorism to further their narrative, the UAEs playcard is the Muslim bullcraphood.

Do we really think that a country, that funds a genocide (Sudan), backs a non internationally recognized government (Libya) and backs the fracturing of a state (Yemen) has anycare apart from appeasing a certain audience for its own interests ?

This is the same country that wanted to buy The Telegraph and also also invited Nigel Farage in December (surely to further British interests ofcourse).

Looking at an article like this in a vaccum just tells you how quickly one can be susceptible to disinformation. This is just a sequence at play for our emirati friends in backing Nigel, just how they’re backing certain leaders across the very African/Arab countries that serve their interest, not the peoples.

Please crack down on anything I consider extreme and don’t you dare crack down on anything I don’t consider extreme is the narrative running through these comments. The first to ask for something banned and the first to complain when something is. What happened to free speech and difference of opinion? Only matters when it’s someone you agree with I take it? Go live in the UAE or saudi and speak up about slavery or conservative Islamic law let’s see how for or against you are crack downs. Why is everyone so upset that middle east money is being moved somewhere else? They don’t seem to be looking to sell up the football clubs or property do they?

Didn’t Nigel Farage just take a funded trip to UAE to dicuss the Muslim Brotherhood?

Sounds like we are being played again.

    9. Actual radicalisation? Or just „I don’t want you associating with a Sunni / Shia“ radicalisation?

This shows how far the liberals have taken the country in a really bad direction
