Submission statement: this article offers a rare first person account of working in AI targeting systems and explains some of the unique characteristics of Fifth Generation Warfare, traces of which we can see in conflicts around the world today. Most importantly, the article argues that fifth generation warfare turns everyone into a target or instrument of war, something exemplified by ICE: where the current government is using advanced surveillance, propaganda, and AI targeting tactics to drive fear in the population. What does that mean for our constitution? Our trust in government? Or the the reputation of the American project in the international stage?
