RFE/RL spoke with Jack Goldstone, a professor of public policy at George Mason University and one of the world’s leading scholars of revolutions, about whether Iran’s ongoing nationwide protests could evolve into a full-scale revolution. Goldstone explains what constitutes a “revolutionary moment,” why Iran may now be closer to one than at any time since 2009, and why the loyalty of the Revolutionary Guards and Basij — rather than protest size alone — will likely determine the outcome. He also discusses how Iran’s economic collapse, loss of legitimacy, and recent military failures factor into the current unrest.

Maybe they will bring back the Shah like the English brought back Charles II after Ayatollah Kromwell.

‚Beginning Of A Revolutionary Moment‘. By 2026 standards, we could see the Revolutionary Moment come to fruition by the weeks end.

The protests seem to have a larger cross section of society than the women, life, freedom protests, and they actually have a leader to rally behind for the first time. Whether or not this leads to a different outcome is unclear, but I pray the Iranian people can take their country back.
