  1. From David Sacks’s [CFR.org](http://cfr.org) post [Trump’s Strikes on Venezuela Will Not Embolden China to Invade Taiwan](https://www.cfr.org/blog/trumps-strikes-venezuela-will-not-embolden-china-invade-taiwan):

“President Donald Trump’s decision to attack Venezuela and capture president Nicolás Maduro ignited a flurry of commentary in the United States about what this would mean for China’s ambitions vis-à-vis Taiwan. Some worried that China could invoke Trump’s unilateral actions as a precedent to snatch Taiwan’s president, while others argued that the United States had lost its moral high ground to intervene on Taiwan’s behalf. In reality, Trump’s actions in Venezuela will have little impact on Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s calculations.”

  2. No, Venezuela did not change much. But you can be damn sure that China is watching closely what Trump does next. If he really invades Greenland like he says he will and causes a war between US and the rest of NATO, then China will have no problem invading Taiwan, because everyone who cares about Taiwan will be busy fighting in the Atlantic.

  3. Always puzzling to read redditors comments on geopolitics and how wrong they get it. The U.S. has the biggest military, most advanced military in the world. When the U.S. starts getting aggressive with it, it makes foes nervous. They can beat their chest all the want but that does change that main fact. Makes them think twice if they were to do something being unsure what the U.S. reaction might be. It is a bit like the mad man diplomacy thing, unpredictability gives them pause, makes them think they are not sure what the reaction might be, or overreaction for that matter. Or for that matter provoking the U.S. short of military action might result in some unexpected reaction. Add to that how the operation was done with tremendous skill and efficiency, they will wonder if their military will be up to fighting that. Doesn’t mean wars won’t start, but the calculus of it gets harder to predict.

No it won’t. But it will be used as an excuse when the time comes that chinawill attack Taiwan. Previously it was possible that the US could gather enough support at the UN to implement UN sanctions in the event China attacked, now that is less likely the case.
