President Donald Trump said the US would run Venezuela until a transition could be organized, hours after a US operation captured leader Nicolás Maduro, ousting the strongman from power after months of mounting military and economic pressure on his regime.

“We’re going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition,” Trump said Saturday at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. “So we don’t want to be involved with having somebody else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years.”

Trump said the US administration of Venezuela would include deploying US oil companies to the country.

“We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country,” Trump said.

So Trump is not hiding the fact that Venezuela’s „democratic transition“ must result in a US-backed government that gives Trump everything he wants.

And he’s just saying it to the whole world.

  3. I don’t even know where to start with the concept of the US “running” Venezuela.

I’m no fan of Maduro, but to the Venezuelan’s who think Trump is a hero, ask yourself these questions:

Is Trump making American lives better? Do you think he’s going to make life better for Venezuelans, or just make money for (already) rich businessmen?

    >But Trump also demurred when asked if he would back opposition leader María Corina Machado, who is in an unknown location, to run the country, saying “we’re going to have to look at it.”

Wouldn’t Machado be an obvious choice ? She won the election, what’s there to think about ?

Unless there’s more to this than a simple removal of dictatorship and we don’t know about it yet.

  6. Let’s go again with the Nation Building and the export of democracy!!🥳 Like it’s 2003 again!

I guess the Rules-Based International Order is totally dead now. The strongest nations decide the faith for the rest of us.

  8. I’d pay to be in the room when the Americans and Venezuelans are in a room talking about how the country is run. Just the cold hard reality of „socialist“ Vs „for-profit“ smashing right into each other.

That said, Venezuela hasn’t been conquered. How do you run a country you don’t control? And with no boots on the ground. As it stands, it’s like Israel saying it would run Iran after decapitating it’s military.

The remaining Venezuela government and military gets a vote here.

Is Trump expecting them to do his bidding? Is there another shoe to drop to make “running Venezuela” a political reality?

Or are we sending in troops?

  10. „It won’t cost us anything.“ ✅

„US oil companies will invest billions of dollars into their infrastructure.“ ✅

„We will control the oil.“ ✅

    RemindMe! 1 year.

Trump can’t even run the USA. Don’t forget he has pardoned notorious drug dealers. It’s all about the oil.

Um… Did the US just *de facto* take over Venezuela? If Bolsonaro was technically the leader (legitimate or not), and the US just deposed/captured him… This seems bigger than the news is making it out to be. Like, is one of Trump’s miscreant offspring going to be head of state of a country now?

  13. Let’s go! Time to conquer Cuba, Greenland and Canada too. And then Mexico and rest of Latin America. Let’s have Empire of America become the largest country in world history!

Russians can have Europe, Chinese East Asia, Indians South Asia and Middle East can be nuked (as that would solve all problems). And then let’s make Africa the joint gulags of the empires, coz the rare earths and slaves have to come from somewhere. /s
