France plans to deploy its next generation SAMP/T NG air defense system to Ukraine as soon as it enters service, according to the observer of French Aid to Ukraine, citing a post by French President Emmanuel Macron on X.

“We agreed that this [SAMP/T NG] system, once developed, will be first deployed in Ukraine and will operate in Ukraine,” Macron said.

French defense company Thales has confirmed that the SAMP/T NG system has reached operational commissioning in France and Italy, with first deliveries scheduled for 2026. As a result, Ukraine is expected to receive its first SAMP/T NG systems the same year, the observer reported.

According to Militarnyi, under a new bilateral defense agreement signed between Ukraine and France in November, Ukraine is set to receive a total of eight SAMP/T NG air defense systems.

Each system includes six launchers, bringing the total number of launchers for Ukraine’s Air Force to 48. After signing the deal, Macron stressed that the agreement is designed to run for ten years and also covers the procurement, development, and production of drones, interceptor systems, and guided aerial munitions.

The deal includes deliveries planned for the next two years, as well as longer term joint defense projects.
