Okay, but I will chuckle.
Considering Cyprus is so small it would be really nice to have a train connecting all our cities together
2 train lines and u can connect the whole of the republic of cyprus (not occupied) . Would make traffic so trivial if I can be at limassol in 30 whilst drinking my coffee
We barely have buses
I can’t imagine how much traffic reduction it will do.
Also, good train should not stop at city boundary, it should go to the city center. That make it absolutely irreplaceable, because it faster than anything (car, aeroplane, etc) due to this last ‚leg‘ to the city center.
I would say, it’s the biggest coolest thing Cyprus can possibly do as investment in future.
Hahahahahahahahahahah it takes them on average 5 years to built 5km of simple highway but yeah they will built train infrastructure ahahahahahahahahahahaha
This is needed to make live affordable, also much much safer my god how I used to hate travelling from Larnaca to limmasol for work. Especially when you’re working 8-9am until 6-7pm you spend 2-3 hours just in traffic both ways
Wild take but an actual underground service would be much more future proof. No/minimal impact on the existing infrastructure/land therefore the housing market can keep up uninterrupted (keep in mind being an island, the surface is limited and hence will become precious at some point) plus it would be very efficient given the extreme temperatures the island is expected to face
It will be a hugely unpopular opinion, but I think it’s a terrible idea to introduce trains in Cyprus right now.
The main problem is that trains are very expensive to build and maintain. From what I’ve read, to be functional and sustainable, a train system would need to carry around 50,000 passengers per day. At the moment, all buses in Cyprus together carry only about 15,000 passengers per day.
If Cyprus were to build train lines today, almost the entire public transport budget would be redirected towards supporting the rail infrastructure, which means buses would receive even less funding. In my view, trains would actually end up destroying the rest of the public transport system in Cyprus.
Public transport should develop gradually, step by step.
First, we should aim to quadruple the number of daily passengers using regular buses.
Then, we could add express (“magistral”) bus lines to the system and double ridership again.
Only after reaching those levels should we seriously consider investing in trains.
Most likely, he is talking about a train connection between Enfield and Hackney, to be built with EU funds once the UK rejoins the EU.
I’d absolutely love having trains. Great for reducing traffic and great for the environment.
