The statement is true though.

Just a reminder that you can give feedback for search results.
Google results can be random, especially now that people use ai. If you want to research facts you need to put in the work and dig deep. You can’t really trust any source either. You should always cross check and examine the author.
For example in this case the statement „Cyprus has never been a Greek island“ is something that can be researched by reading the history of Cyprus. Here is a book on the history of Cyprus

I think it’s more because the AI interprets Greek as being part of Greece.
When someone is being a smart-ass, politely explain to them that it’s true that Cyprus was never a greek island, since Greece as a country is relatively modern.
It’s true. Cyprus was never Greek. It’s an independent nation, with it’s own laws, and identity.
However, Cyprus is Hellenic. It was Hellenic since the ancient Mycaeneans, and it will continue being Hellenic, no matter how much the Neo-ottomans pout, shout and throw tantrums 🙂
Google results are very personalized these days so hard to say what’s going on with their algo but a few likely reasons:
1. He also discusses the occupation history of Cyprus, including making the point Greece never has. The facts strictly speaking are accurate on that link also, just both us and Hitchens draw a very different conclusion from them.
2. So it’s a semantic content match + generally government sources are higher credibility, though obviously hugely problematic in this case.
I’m Turkish Cypriot and even I can see this is obviously wrong, Greeks have lived in cyprus longer than Turks. It’s basic history
We’ve been had. Time to change the name to the Phoenician Republic of Cyprus.
It’s not just because of Google. It’s how algorithms deem your general search intents from your previous searches.
Your vectorised search has proximity to that question according to the algorithm.
Algorithm infers your general search intent from your previous searches + IP, location data(localised clusters), etc.
Look at my results per se.
