I’m doubting many people are actually speaking French in the blue areas, rather they learned it in elementary school and are putting it down on the census as their second language.
Very common in Canada for people to put fluent in French on their resumes and then not be able to put together a sentence.
I am sure the comments will be civil about this one
French is interesting, are lot of people from Quebec moving to Vancouver or is it people from French speaking countries?

Lived in Vancouver for the past several years – I hear far more Spanish than I do French.
The numbers are all likely very very close so for the most part you’re not gonna hear French spoken everywhere and you may also be hearing another language spoken everywhere in certain parts of the city.
Pretty soon English will appear on this map as a secondary language after Punjabi in Surrey, Abbotsford, Delta.
