    1. Reposting after making some fixes to the map. It includes all ships and boats that have been officially designated as a state symbol by the state government.

The USS Alabama is docked in Mobile, Alabama. Don’t know if it’s „official“ but the ship was purchased with donations from school kids in the early sixties. Don’t know if the plaque is still there, but there was a plaque listing the name of the children who donated.
A nickel, dime or maybe a quarter, it was a lot of money for a kid then. My sister’s name is on that plaque…..Mama had one dime and my sister got the honor. Hope to see that someday.

The pirogue is technically the state artifact of Illinois, designated in 2016. It’s also suspiciously similar to “pierogi.”

When I would go on vacations to other states as a kid, before the internet, I would be asked by kids from other states if we rowed to school in our pirogues.

Can bass boats be named? If so, it’s probably that (Arkansas).

    6. The USS New Mexico was the first Virginia class submarine to surface at the north pole

The USS Utah is both a battleship sunk at Pearl Harbor in WWII and a new nuclear submarine christened in October 2025.

North Carolina has Battleship North Carolina functioning as a museum. Im not sure what the criteria are for official state ship though.

I mean, basically all 50 states have a Virginia class submarine or historical battleship as a namesake.

The fact that Idaho isn’t USS Hawkbill is a crime.

Governor Little, instead of endorsing shitty mayoral candidates do something productive and make this happen.
