Incomplete & Nothing new.
– There is also Turkish title land in the North, which belonged to Turkish Cypriots pre 1974. This is undisputed land, and as a Brit (or other foreigner) you can buy it without worrying of any issues with the Republic of Cyprus
– There are thousands of Brits and many more other nationalities who bought property in the North. Since the Oram’s case, there was no single other ruling. I wonder why? Well, nobody tried because they would fail today. That’s because of the immovable property commission.
Even if the ROC went totally hardline and charged the individual home buyers. No country will extradite thousands of people, probably not even Greece.
– There are many many other reasons why Brits (and others) should be very careful with property in the North; and these reasons are „home made by TRNC“. The laws can change any minute (they went from 3% to 12% taxes without any grace period for those who had signed the contract when it was still 3%), if you are unlucky you are not granted permission and have to sell again (it’s the military who decides to grant the permission of purchase, and there are cases where they declined unexpectedly for stupid reasons); next year somebody builds a building right into your promised „seaside view“, higher than normally allowed (because it’s a well-connected person who can get an exception). I’m not even talking about the issues that can arise if you don’t properly check the title deeds, if your advocate is not working properly, either out of lazyness or vested interests; Issues with builders who go bankrupt or do not fulfil their contract, knowing that you as a foreigner are in a weaker position in the legal system and many more issues.
Anyone who gives money to enter Greek Cypriot land that was violently expelled in the south in 1974 and is prevented from recovering it because of the Turkish army is automatically exposed.
If he wants to give money in exchange for a title deed that is internationally equivalent to toilet paper, and he did so because the price was good, he will find it in front of him. He is doing so at his own risk, and neither Tatar nor Erdogan will protect him if the problem caused by Turkey since 1974 is resolved through legal means in its entirety.
There is nothing else to say.
