      Canadian here. Why would we travel to a country that started a trade war, is threatening our sovereignty, and has had ICE lock up some of our citizens who did visit?

      The really sad part is that the relationship between Canada and the US may never return to what it was, or at least it will take decades to repair.

      People used to brag about their trips to the states, now it is more „I am only going done for work‘ or „I have relatives there.“ No one wants to go and be publicly shamed.

      My mom lives in Hawaii where a lot of Canadians own condos. Ive never seen this many up for sale in the last 15 years.

      Can confirm. We usually pop down to Seattle or Vegas once or twice a year, this year we went to Kelowna and Banff.

      It isn’t tariff disputes. It is the fact that the Great Orange Buffoon called them not a real country, the 51st state, their leader was a governor, and they were better off not existing.

      I live on Cape Cod. I usually see several Canadian license plates per day in the busy season. I’ve seen four this summer.

      I changed my vacation plans for next winter from Belize (my original plan) to Costa Rica because getting to Belize would require a layover in an American city but Costa Rica was direct. No thanks, USSA, I’ll just fly right over you and hopefully never step foot on your soil again.

      Yeah the trade war pissed me off but the chance of being scooped up into an American concentration camp is a big no for me dog

      As a Canadian, I’m fairly certain the USA doesn’t exist. Canada has absolutely no government south of it until Mexico.
      It’s really just a no man’s land I have no reason to visit whatsoever. You hear the “president” talking over there and every main city is crime ridden and full of terrorist foreigners.

      Things are so bad that the make-believe “government” over there is deploying the military reserves in its major “cities”

      Why the hell would I go there?

      I mean, even flying over it is a hazard.

      I often have to travel to the US for work.

      For the past 7 months I’ve been trying every excuse I can think of to avoid it, not sure how much longer I can hold off but I do not want to be forced to go there even when I’m being paid for it. That should tell the US something, but I doubt they care

      The odds of getting fucked over when trying to cross the border are low.

      But if they’re more than zero, it makes the trip pretty unappealing.

      Sorry, even if it’s pretty unlikely crossing the border gets me detained for posting about how Trump isn’t my favorite, it’s not worth risking.

      I don’t think this is a very surprising response.

      I am not going to risk being disappeared over a trip to Disneyland while MAGA are telling Canadians we aren’t a nation and don’t need anything from us.

      Aussie here. I can’t understand why anyone would go to the USA. Trump wants to be Putin, which you can see with how giddy with excitement he is when he’s with him (our former PM has spoken on camera about this).

      I want their military out of our country, all bases shut down, no landing rights. And I’m a fairly conservative voter, ex military, trained and worked with the US military, who at the moment has zero trust in anything the US does. It’s a rogue nation and should be treated as such.

      I have a trans kid. I’m not going to tell my kids to hide who they are, and I’m old enough now that fighting a drunk middle aged man with a red baseball cap in a Waffle House parking lot because a child corrected them about pronouns is no longer my idea of a good time.

      We had planned trips to the USA to visit cities and enjoy their downtown culture. Not anymore. All of our trips are redirected away from the states.

      Used to take 2 trips a year to the States, not now. Going to Britain this year and Europe next.

      Somebody might have wanted to include CBP and their limited use of due process in that list of reasons we aren’t visiting. The last number I’d heard was 133 Canadians were in ICE custody, after the stories of what the US does to its own citizens why would a foreigner take any chances unless they had no choice?

      I’m too old to be running from ICE and my knee isn’t great from snowboarding for the last 35 years. I’d rather not, thanks.

      Not going to be traveling to a country who has no respect for our sovereignty.

      Then add in a nonsense trade war, and ICE having a field day kidnapping („detaining“) people at random just cause they can with little regard for the law or basic decency – frankly, I wouldn’t feel safe as a Canadian across the border.

      I dont think americans can quite comprehend how much an anti-american bent culturally defines Canada, i believe part of the reason canada is kind of politically left of the states is because its kind of a massive middle finger to the Americans.

      I live in Florida and while many Florida business rely on Canadian tourist dollars, I’m delighted this will blowback on Gov. DeSantis.

      I would love to take a trip to the U.S, soo many great things to see, buuut they can wait.

      We went to war for the U.S, our soldiers died because the U.S wanted help from all „allies“, only to be be treated worse than Russia, luckily America is not the world and I can travel anywhere else.

      We’re annoyed about the tarriffs but it’s the whole 51st state rhetoric that pissed us off, and is the real reason why we’re boycotting. It’s a betrayal and the USA won’t be able to take it back

      Funny because we kept hearing from this Trump regime that they didn’t need anything from Canada.

      We used to be great neighbours. Now we’re being treated like criminals, having our sovereignty threatened. It’s unacceptable and unforgivable. I feel bad for all the affected businesses but until there is a new government I don’t know why anyone would visit the US.
