      China would be crazy to attack Taiwan. China is not crazy.

      First, from a military perspective, the challenge is enormous: Taiwan is an island, it specializes in asymmetric defense (which has shown to be very effective), and it has been getting prepared for decades. An invasion may even be impossible.

      Second, the diplomatic and economic costs of becoming a world pariah would be immense.

      China has a far stronger path by continuing its growth, becoming the strongest world power, and increasing its influence over Taiwan. Patience and it will eventually fall like ripe fruit (I am paraphrasing Gandhi).

      Sorry Trump, if true it has nothing to do with you. China will put its needs and strategic interests above you every time. If their reasoning leads them to the conclusion that the situation requires invasion, they will. If they lack the force readiness, than it’s not worth the risk. It’s not anticipated that they will have the force readiness until after you leave office, which isn’t long. You should be working harder to curtail their military expansion or work on mending trade relations, but you’d mess up either. In that regard, military invasion is still very much on the table. Sorry to hurt your ego, but you don’t matter that much to China.
