They literally spam me, even few days after giving blood. Like I’m not going to give blood in that short time again
They always send daily messages when 3 months have passed. Generally speaking, i was told that there is higher need for blood during the summer. But if there really is a need for your type of blood they will call you.
OP I have a close friend who works/worked in the Egkwmi lab, yes they are actually being truthfull in the messages. They are constantly in need for more and more blood and apparently my generation (30s) is the last one who is still on decent blood donour levels.
Unfortunately younger people don’t donate blood at all and the older generations who used to be the most avid donours are reaching/have reached the point where they aren’t advised to do so. So please if you can, just go. It’s at best 4 times every year and if you are an athlete or work out some studies have shown that not only it isn’t going to impact your everyday life, but also sometimes it might even help with heart problems.
If they really need you to donate, they will give you a call.
Oh, can you guide me a bit about blood donation in Cyprus? I’ve tried to find aggregated information earlier but failed. Wanna participate too.
After covid yes unfortunately. Go if you have the time! It helps alot
Yes the situation is always this serious and they do spam you once you are eligible again. Nevertheless this is not because Cypriots do not give blood, the opposite actually, if i am not mistaken Cyprus has the highest percentage of blood donors in EU, but this is also because it also has the highest need of blood by far (greece is the only one close). This is due to the many people suffering from thalassemia, the highest percentage in the world, and if i am not mistaken something like 60% – 70% of the donated blood goes to those people, as they need monthly transfusions.
Will they take from tourists ? I’m overdue to donate and I’m O- . I know some countries have stricter restrictions than the States
Yes, although, for some reason Cyprus is also exporting blood
I am donator years now, since I do have a rare type of blood which is global donor. For me to go to is non negotiable. Never had any problem with the people and how they treat you.
BUT, the SMS spamming is awful. And sometimes they call you from different numbers and tell you that there is some kind of emergency and you have to be there the same day. When you go they say, „we will transfer the blood tomorrow“. It happened too many times to ignore that. and it makes me wonder too.
yes and also just a rant but they should start making their forms in English for all those non Greek speakers who wish to donate, additionally I have seen tons of people turned away because of antidepressants but that shouldn’t be an issue
