Run one half when the cars stop, then wait until the other half is empty and run again to finish crossing. 🙂

  2. Lol, yeah, how is it accepted to not put pedestrian lights on crossings like these?

I think you should be able to see the lights of the cars going parallel to you and go when they have green light.

But it’s shameful that these exist.

    By praying to god lol.

Even if they put proper pedestrian lights up it is still dangerous as some people choose to ignore them.

For this intersection, I would cross the first bit when the light is red. Stop where the median is if cars are coming. And then the other half when no cars are coming.

  4. welcome to Cyprus…one of the most car centric countries in the world. City planners here completely ignore the existence and the needs of pedestrians

Even the UAE has pedestrian crossings 🤷‍♂️

  5. just look at the traffic lights, if theyre red for the drivers you can cross. keep in mind the drivers turning right from the opposite and youre fine. lesrn the rukes of the road and you’ll never need to be told when to cross

I almost got hit by a car outside the hospital (I was crossing on the pedestrian thing) lmao

I suppose other direction is past the safety island so first reach it, look if all is good & go

This was one of the main reasons why I moved away after a couple of months. I literally feared for my life every day

Step 1: get in your car

    Step 2: drive around

Step 3: park on the other side of the street

Step 4: get out of your car

Voila, you crossed the street the way city planners intended!

  10. Look left, pass the first half of the street when it’s red , when you are in the middle pass when cars are not passing , pay attention to trafficators , some people suprisingly use them

  11. I don’t understand why they even need that distinct red „stripe“ for pedestrians if it’s treated like any other part of the road without crossing. Such a joke. „Hey, you can cross here, but cars get a priority. Have a nice day“.

I usually wait for the red light for cars and start walking. Kinda got used to it. But crossing a 4-line road that has no „safe zone“ in the middle still makes me nervous. Especially if it’s a busy road like Makariou Ave. in Limassol.

Even if there were traffic lights you usually get 10 seconds to cross and if there are no traffic cameras at that particular junction you most probably will have at least one car stopped on the crossing blocking you. Also when crossing at traffic lights always double check since many times people just overtake stopped cars despite the red light.

  13. I guess the blood stains on the pedestrian is of the person who attempted the previous comments

  14. you could not cross the street because you redacted photos of the public places

The same ones who don’t respect the red lights or stop signs, stop on a green light in major boulevard for a pedestrian to walk across. How many times i saw this and had to stp on the brakes to not hit someone. I mean cypriots are something else.

  16. I dont even have a sidewalk outside my house. Literally walk into the street. Complained, to the municipality, its the governments fault apparently. 🥲

There are plenty of spots like that. They are very dangerous. Just don’t go there, find some other place to cross. Nobody gives a shit about pedestrians in Cyprus so you have to look out for yourself.

Apart from the fact that as a country we dont care for pedestrians and is sad.. the only possible way is crossing first half when the light for those cars is red and then wait until the green arrow appears for the same cars, so no one would drive through the second half.

Done it many times. It sucks that there is no system, but it works

Well, that’s how it is on this island. As long as you watch your sides, it’s gonna be okay. It was a fucking nightmare for me when I got here, but you get used to it.

Because I didnt spot this in the comments, and this type of crossing is near by place (and since the picture does not indicate it) I can only assume that there’s crossings with lights in the other 3 areas around you. What they expect you to do (which i find ridiculous and wrong) is basically cross from your left (as you see the picture) then across from there and then again across to reach where you see opposite you there.

    OR

Press the button in the other crossing, and since this stops ALL cars in all crossings, pass from where you want.

OTHER options is to cross until mid point while the cars on your right are stopped and then wait to cross the other half.

  21. Do you really think traffic lights matter for people in Limassol? this must be your first visit in this city

  22. just_a_pyro on

Wait for cars to stop at their red light and cross to the middle divider.

Wait for cars from the other direction to also stop at their red light and cross the rest of the way.

    It’s just that easy

You try to cross and pray for your life. Always exciting and makes you feel alive if you make it.
